Today, we live in an interesting time. Every year, new technologies make our lives easier, and just five years ago, it was hard to imagine anything like this. Now the GPT chat is not just artificial intelligence, but also a doctor, a psychologist, a friend, and a teacher. Its role is especially great in the educational environment.
The topic of the influence of the GPT chat on students can be considered from different angles.
On the one hand, ChatGPT can handle almost all student tasks: it can write an essay or a thesis, check assignments, complete tests, and even create presentations. It is truly a helpful assistant. However, the question arises: what will this lead to? Many students begin to simplify their lives greatly – they do not read materials, do not prepare for exams, and rely entirely on the help of artificial intelligence. Is this a problem? Obviously, yes. After all, a person who does not immerse himself in the learning process is unlikely to become a good specialist after graduating from university.
On the other hand, many people use GPT chat wisely, not to replace their own studying, but to make it easier. For example, searching for information using chat allows you to save time. For example, foreign students use it to check grammar in their papers. Such cases of use do not have a detrimental effect on the level of students’ knowledge.
There is another category of students – those who want to rely entirely on GPT chat, but are aware of the risks. For example, a student can ask GPT chat to help with writing an essay, then change the text: shorten it, expand it, add their own thoughts and phrases so that the work looks natural and unique. Such a student still takes part in the process, although he makes his task easier, but at the same time, he understands the content of his work well. It is also worth mentioning the example of using GPT chat to prepare presentations. Even when receiving ready-made information, the student often double-checks it and makes edits, thereby assimilating the material.
To summarize, we can say that there is no clear answer to the question of the benefits or harm of GPT chat for students. Everything depends on how a person uses this technology. I think that the percentage of students who competently use the capabilities of GPT chat is still higher than those who completely rely on it, without trying to delve into the learning process.
In addition, many students consciously choose a profession to which they want to devote their lives, and therefore are interested in receiving a quality education. For this reason, we will be able to make accurate conclusions about the influence of GPT chat on students only after some time, by observing the results.
